News / 27.12.2019

An Ethereum Classic Network hard fork, known as Agharta, is forthcoming. This hard fork will consist of Ethereum Constantinople fork features. Similarly, the hard fork intends to achieve complete compatibility between ETC and ETH.

As per the 26th of December press release, ETC labs confirmed its agenda to achieve complete compatibility. According to Terry Culver, Ethereum Classic Labs is one of the first incubators to support innovative projects on the  Ethereum Classic Blockchain. The compatibility between the ETC network and the ETH network will accelerate the Ethereum Classic community and ecosystem development.

Ethereum Classic Labs and Ethereum come from similar roots; making them compatible will enhance the development process and reduce disruption, says ETC Labs.

Market Participants’ Comments on Agharta Hard Fork

James Wo noted that the forthcoming Agharta update shows that ETC labs have an interest in compatibility. ETC labs believe that the strength of the community determines whether or not public blockchains will succeed.

This month, Stevan Lohja announced the agreement between Ethereum Classic core developers and some ecosystem stakeholders; concerning a target block number for a mainnet activation and a testnet period for better guarantee.

Additionally, this month, Lohja announced the rebranding of ETC Labs Core to ETC Core. It aimed at enhancing the firm’s ability to differentiate itself from ETC Labs.
